Lost in Translation

Lately I have been thinking about communication; especially in the context of translation and cross-cultural communication. We are in the business of communicating. Right now we are trying to communicate with folks state-side about the need for missionaries, about God's heart for the lost, about what exactly we will be doing in Papua New Guinea anyway. Later on we will be learning to communicate in a cultural context that is quite different from what we are used to.
That brings me to the 'MP3 -Prayer' above. With the important things that we are trying to communicate, it is critical for us to get it right. How many of us would consider the above advertisement as being trustworthy? Not many. Does it communicate its intended message? No way!

Pray for us as we are going to be sharing with tribal people by our lives and our words the freeing message of the gospel. We are going to be involved in an intensive process of translation trying not to make mistakes like that above. Pray that we will have good insight and wisdom as we study and seek to understand the Word of God!
