A Prayer Calendar for the Next Couple of Weeks

Howdy all,

The time has come for us to head into the bush. We so appreciate all of you and your prayers on our behalf. Here are some things that you can be praying for these next weeks:

Tuesday, March 2nd:  Please PRAY for good weather for flying.  Lord willing, yesterday Nate flew into Pal with a work team to finish our house.   If we have the same wind that we did before and the helicopter can’t do shuttles of things like food and furniture and medicine, we will have to wait again.  We have talked about the possibility of Nate just STAYING in Pal until the first date that the wind has died down (saving us hundreds of dollars in fruitless attempts).  Needless to say, I’m not excited at the possibility of being apart from him indefinitely.  If we have good weather this week, we can just finish and move in.  He holds the winds in His hands and we know He is able!

March 3rd: Please pray for things to go smoothly for the work team – four guys working with Nate in Pal – today.  There are a LOT of details that have to fall into place, you can’t just run out to a hardware store if you forget some plumbing or electrical detail.  J

March 4th:  Today is the day that our partner, Mason Lockwood, flies in to join Nate and they go to BUY PIGS.  J  These pigs are owned by the land and tree owners who are letting us use their land and gave us posts to build our houses on.  The money for the pigs is our payment in a round-a-bout, culturally appropriate way.  Please pray that all of this would go smoothly, that all of the families will feel fully repaid and that there will be no lingering feelings that we owe a debt.

March 5th:  Today the ladies and kids will fly into Pal for the first time.  How exciting!  Please pray for us and our kids as we see MANY new faces (all 1000 Pal speakers have been invited to come for a party that day).   Our kids have various levels of tolerance for being stared at and touched on their faces/heads.  Please pray for wisdom for us as parents to know how to care for them.

March 6th:  Please pray for us all as speeches are made welcoming us and we talk again about why we have come to Pal.  Pray for us as relationships begin.  Even now, may the Pal people see Jesus in us.

March 7th:  Our work team leaves today and we begin settling in.  Please pray for us to find routine and normalcy as quickly as possible!

March 8th:  Today much of the excitement will be over and yet the stress and newness will remain.  Please pray that our eyes would be fixed on the Lord and on what IS true, not how we feel, today!

March 9th:  Please pray for efficiency and clear thinking for Nate and Mason as they continue to finish our houses and for Kim and I as we unpack and organize our houses.

March 10th: Please pray for good health for our kids and ourselves in the midst of a new environment.

March 11th:  Our ears are getting attuned to the Pal language.  Please pray that our brains won’t “shut down” when surrounded by unfamiliar sounds and words!

March 12th:  Please pray…that we’ll roust out any centipedes, mice, or giant spiders that may have taken refuge in our houses!!  Yikes!!

March 13th:  Many people will be stopping by our houses to get to know us.  Pray that we’ll welcome them warmly and that good friendships will begin.   Pray that I’ll have flexibility and balance to be able to accomplish the normal tasks of caring for our kids, doing dishes and cooking, laundry, etc, during this time.

March 14th:  Today (it’s Monday the 15th in PNG) is the day I’d like to start back up with homeschooling.  Please pray that I’ll have wisdom and patience as I teach my kids.

March 15th:  Please pray that we will have wisdom as people ask us for salt, soap, or any number of small things that they find hard to get in Pal.   In PNG culture friendship is often about giving and receiving, but it should be about BOTH giving and receiving if we are to be respected.  Please PRAY for us that we will walk with God in this!

We are so dependant on the Lord’s power, wisdom and strength.  He’s promised us that He is with us.  You help us by your prayers.  We can’t tell you how much we count on knowing you all are praying for us.  THANK YOU!

With love,

Elizabeth for our family
