“Where are you going?” – Nate

“To that village over there. A man is sick and we need to take care of him.” - friend

“Oh, what are you going to do?”  - Nate

“We will spend all night checking on what he did to become sick (who is angry with him). Then we’ll try to make sure that everyone is happy with each other and then we’ll eat some food together.” – friend

“And then what will happen?”  - Nate

“He’ll get better.” – friend

Another time….

“What is that?” – Nate

“It is the umbilical cord of the baby that was just born in the village.” – friend

“Why is it wrapped in leaves and on the trail?” – Nate

“That is so that the pigs do not go into the garden.”  -friend

Still another time….

“We killed two chickens and then [the man] spread them out and read what they meant. He gave us instruction on how to hang them us so that we would receive blessing.” - friend

Every day we are gaining more and more insight into the thinking of the Pal people. We need to know what they are thinking so that when we are ready to teach them, what we can provide for them answers to the deep (and very real) questions that they have concerning the truth. Will you pray that we have sharp ears to understand their many beliefs that are not as overt as the those examples above.

Highlights of the Week:

·         Building a half-house in the bush at a friend’s garden

·         Catching frogs at night at the river (snakes too!)

·         Eating sugar cane and helping clear the garden of another friend.

·         Teaching people how to write their own names.

·         Being able to successfully create a couple of sentences that made sense to the hearers.

·         Seeing the display of a very rare bird of paradise. (no pictures folks – this one has lots to do with the carefully guarded culture of the Pal people)

Pray!

·         Thanks for Health – we seem to be back on the healthy side again after a week or two at half speed.

·         Pray for a decrease in Critters – our team has seen lots of critters in the houses lately – rats making nests, centipedes at night, ants, and termites just to name a few.

·         Planning – we are looking at a flight in about 6 weeks time, but we are not sure that it will happen. (We’ll be scraping the bottom of the supplies by then…)

·         Memory – on one ridge alone (about a 2 mile stretch) there are more than 50 place names and some named streams to go along with it… we have to learn them all.

Well, that is about it for this week. Thanks so much for taking the time to be a part of the Pal work!

Nate for the fam.

The LORD reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned above the cherubim. Let the earth quake.  2 The LORD is great in Zion; He is exalted above all the peoples.  3 Let them praise Your great and awe-inspiring name. He is holy.  4 The mighty King loves justice. You have established fairness; You have administered justice and righteousness in Jacob.  5 Exalt the LORD our God; bow in worship at His footstool. He is holy. Psalm 99:1-5
