Obstacle Course...
Elias takes on the track portion of the Obstacle Course of DOOM… aka recess.
…like a strong man, [it] runs its course with joy. (from Psalm 19)
There are certain times to hang tightly to the rope; after a water skiing wipeout is not one of those times (glub). At the same time, nothing encourages a strong grip like dangling over the side of a cliff. We are seeing with more clarity than usual these days that the work in Pal is very much one of those things that is encouraging us to cling tightly to the Lord. Here are some of the obstacles that we are seeking the Lord for strength to meet these days.
- Culture and language progress targets that must be met for our participation in a conference in October.
- Continued time of being alone on the ground in Pal.
- Increased costs associated with the weakness of the US dollar.
- Daily life in real relationships with people in deep need.
Frankly, these months have been a great time of personal growth for us because we have not had to believe in the abstract concept of God’s faithfulness, we’ve seen it in action. Please pray for us that our grip on the rope would not slacken and that we would run our course with joy.
Running with a hatchet is not recommended… (I think it goes the other way, Tim…)
Missionary Dating
I thought I’d left junior high awkwardness behind me 20 years ago. Yet here I am again with the phone in my hand asking myself questions like “Is it too soon after our date to call?”
For the record Elizabeth and I are happily married! We are just taking the time while we are out of the bush to be talking with some new missionary families about the possibility of their joining the Pal team. (I feel like writing a missionary flavored follow-up to the Jimmy Buffet song about Pina Coladas… but Elizabeth says that it might really put another couple off if I serenaded them “as if we aren’t strange enough already.” )
Anyway, we are encouraged by what we see in the new folks here and would appreciate your prayers for us and them as we all seek to serve where God has us to.
Thanks so much for your care for us.
