Unsettling

It’s great to be with loved ones like Great Grandma Sue! Here, enjoying a weekend family reunion at Nate’s folks’ place.

So many homes.
Oh yeah, coming back to the States for a home assignment entails lots of adjustments. This summer we’ve worked hard at setting up two different spaces where we will be spending most of the year Stateside, tried to connect with as many family and friends as possible, and tried to help our kids experience some of the things that we liked best about summer when we grew up. (Yea for swimming and berry picking!) As we’ve done that we’ve had a chance to think about what it means to have a home. That settled, comfortable, ah, I-belong-here kind of feeling is a bit elusive for us. With people who are dear to us in so many places, we often have to consciously set aside the cares and plans that are not directly related to who we are with and where we happen to be at present. Don’t get me wrong. We are having a great time. It’s actually as we are having a great time that we feel a real joy and longing for heaven – where we will be united in one place and we really will be settled forever.

Here are the boys, enjoying a jungle of a different sort: giant redwoods.

Travels.
As you think of us, would you be praying for our travels? We already have more than 7,000 miles under our belts, and are looking to put another 4,000 on the car before Christmas as well as a short trip back to New Guinea in October. If you are wondering when we’ll be in your neck of the woods, please drop us a line (email us or text/call 707-702-2135).
