Why are we not hungry?
Taste and See that the Lord is Good
If we were just looking at statistics, the years 2015 and 2016 have been phenomenal for the Mesi Church. Attendance to twice-a-week worship and teaching events is high. We can't seem to print enough material to satisfy the many folks who are asking to read scripture, lessons, Bible studies, and practice readers. There seems to be an abundance of trained teachers for our literacy school. By population, the majority of people who live within an hour's hike of our hamlet have been baptized. They are taking on roles in worship and in the preparation and presentation of Bible lessons. It feels like things are rolling along.
What is wrong with us??
Our friends came to me the other day and, as a group, asked about what has gone wrong. They said, "Nate, at first, we could not get enough of God's Word. We read it all the time. We talked about it all night. Our hearts were jumping up and down within us just to be reading the truth. We were like that and then we got baptized. Now we sit down to read God's Word and its like our minds can't even stay awake. We go home after our meetings thinking that we'll read and enjoy God's truth, but then we just put the papers aside and don't look at them until the next meeting day. What is wrong with us? Has God's Spirit left us?"
What do you think dear prayer-for-the-mesi-church? Does their concern sound at all familiar to you? Is this not yet another season of growth in the Christian life?
Will you please pray for our Mesi believers. That they would increase in real joy in relationship with their Savior. That they would be reminded of the great salvation that God has offered them. That, as they submit their minds and actions to God's direction that they would taste again the excitement of His presence. That they would be strong in battle against the temptation to lethargy. That they would be encouraged by His faithfulness.
Please pray too, for us. We are in depths well above our heads and are needing wisdom and strength daily to meet the challenges that God brings our way.
Thanks for praying,
Nate for us.
PS. We've been posting more regularly on Facebook lately. If you want a veritable stream of #mesichurch life as it happens, please add us as friends. (Nate n Elizabeth Claasen)
