Dealing with Covid-19

Hey there dear praying friends,

Like so much of the world, we expect that the Corona Virus is in Papua New Guinea or will be soon.

Some have written, wondering if we are okay or if we are heading back to the USA.  There are good reasons for older missionaries and for those who have underlying health conditions to return to their home countries.  At this point, our family's plan is to remain in Papua New Guinea. We see this as an opportunity to express the hope of Jesus during a tough time in a tough place.

We are praying for wisdom as we look ahead at next days.  We also expect quarantines, health care shortages and supply shortages.   Our teens learned yesterday that their 4th term of school was cancelled, but that they'll be working on their classes at home.

In this midst of uncertainty, we're thankful for godly leadership - and our heartbeat for evangelism and discipleship continues!  We're sharing a statement that our organization, NTM PNG, has put together:

NTM PNG has responded to the COVID-19 situation by mobilizing a Crisis Management Team. This is standard operating procedure to allow our directors and the organization to focus on church development efforts here in PNG. There are many exciting things continuing to happen in PNG. For example, the team in Amdu will be starting their Phase 1 teaching on March 23rd. Please be lifting them up in prayer.

The NTM PNG members have been given the freedom to leave PNG and return to their passport country if they choose. Those remaining in PNG will continue to work to maintain core church development functions.

Thank you for your prayers during this time of uncertainty and transition.

Last week, Nate got to spend some significant time with Pal believers in Madang town.  He took the opportunity to take some friends up the road, shortening their long hike into Pal by 4-6 hrs.
