Summer Check-in!

Summer Check-in!

By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding
he set the heavens in place;
by his knowledge the watery depths were divided
and the clouds let drop the dew. - Proverbs 3:19-20

It’s July and it’s hot outside here in Northern California. Yup, you read that right, instead of writing from the highlands of Papua New Guinea, we are working remotely from the USA for a couple of months. It has been so good to be able to see the boys, to hear about their respective school-years, and to snatch a few precious family moments.

We are now getting ready to say our goodbyes and head back over the Pacific. Leaving is always hard for us, but there are good things about going back that we are all excited for. Elias is looking forward to his senior year at NCA. Elizabeth is looking forward to returning to the school and the challenge of teaching a whole new crop of classes. Nate is looking forward to getting back to in-person connections with the Mesi church and the other teams that he is working with.

My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
    preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
Then you will go on your way in safety,
 and your foot will not stumble.
- Proverbs 3:21-23

As we get ready to head back over to PNG in a little over a week, we have been seeking the Lord for His direction for this next year. There are open doors everywhere we look in PNG to go along with responsibilities that we’ve already committed to. We have interspersed portions of Proverbs 3 here with some of the different requests that have come our way these last several months.  Would you pray for and with us as we depend on the Lord for His direction for ministry this year? There is so much to do and we are so limited!

“Nate, we went to Mutuvav (outreach location) and taught. There, some of the people became sorry for their sin. When they heard the story about the angel that guarded the road back to Eden, they said, “How will we get back to the place where God is? This is my report.” - Metiu

My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
    preserve sound judgment and discretion;

“Nate, there are at least 5 churches that are asking for us to come and train teachers, when should we schedule those courses?” - Mark

they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.

“We need to go and visit the M. church to encourage the believers there. They have been needing discipleship and encouragement.” - Bill

Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.

“What will we do for our kids? If we send them to school at this age, we won’t have the chance to teach them God’s ways well.” - Sidop

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

“Wei is very sick, can you help us arrange a helicopter to get him to the hospital before he dies?”

Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

“What resources do you have in tok pisin that we can use to encourage and continue to disciple our churches?” - Isaac

for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

“Would you guys read through this set of lessons and give us some feedback? We’d like to make them as clear and applicable as possible.” - Derek

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.

Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”— when you already have it with you.

We are so thankful for all of you who partner with us - your prayers and support are so essential to the work that we are doing!
Grace and peace!

Nate for Elizabeth and the boys.
