Taking a Ride
More than decorations, the muddy handprints on the back of our bus were evidence of our sticky adventures in the mucky Finnesterre Mountains.
Well this last week has been another adventure for the Claasen family. Because of the change in our scheduled entry into Pal, we decided to do a little exploring and headed down to Lae, the second largest city in PNG. It was the first time that Elizabeth and the boys have been there (Nate went down last summer to purchase some lumber). We had a great time, staying at the small NTM guest house there. We had the opportunity to go to a crocodile farm, buy some supplies for moving into Pal, and help prepare the boys for our move.
Now we are back in Madang, and will spend the next three weeks continuing to help out on the center, re-clean our house, and prepare a few things that we hadn’t the time to do in January (I guess it would be good to think through the antenna for our HF radio, things to wind-proof our house, and developing relationships with government officials in town who can help the Pal people with medical services).
Things you can be praying for:
- Tender hearts to hear the Lord. We are learning much about discipleship as we seek to connect in deeper ways with those around us.
- Parenting wisdom. We’ve got a couple of really strong willed kids and are seeking the Lord for their training.
- Health – lots of sickness going around lately, both for us and the Lockwoods. Nate’s ear has been acting up again (regular headaches), Elias spent much of last night emptying his gut, and flu-like symptoms have been gnawing at the others.
- Clear heads for learning Pal – We are even yet seeking to prepare ourselves for the task of learning what makes the Pal people tick and how they communicate. We are trusting the Lord for wisdom as we enter their world.
- Good weather in March – Specifically March 3-9th. These are the days that the helicopter pilot has selected for our next attempt. The winds and rain last time made flying too risky. Pray for clear, calm days.
Thanks so much for taking part in the Lord’s work here,
Nate for the Cs.
