Language Learning - Video Style

Light

Something we had often taken for granted in America is the ability to work and play inside our houses after the sun goes down. Since our family has been back in the States, we have really enjoyed evenings with 100 watt equivalent bulbs. It is a small thing, but it feels luxurious and decadent and is lots of fun. Pretty much the same thing goes for spiritual light. We look forward to the day when God shines His truth on the hearts of our friends in Pal. Can you pray with us that that day will be soon.

Language Study

One of the things that we have been doing these last days is reviewing language data that we brought home with us. If you are interested in how the process works, we’ve put together a series of short videos from Pal about what language learning in the field looks like. The first step of all is called warm up and it is time spent around people just tuning our ears to the sounds of their language. The second step (really the first part of active language learning) is to begin to point at things and have the people tell us what they are as in this video:

We hope you enjoyed it. More to come next time!
