Eyes Wide Open and *Remember this date*

A restaurant in Lae, Papua New Guinea -  The place that our kids called ‘like Disneyland’ when we visited more than a year ago…

Disneyland

After severe weather prevented us from moving into Pal in January of 2010, we took a short team building trip to the city of Lae in Papua New Guinea (the second largest city in PNG – a place where *gasp* you can go out for donuts!) . There our kids called the playground we found (pictured in full above) ‘Disneyland ®’. Oh, you laugh, but they were confident that the spectacular nature of a *real* playground at least matched all that the Magic Kingdom could offer. Fast forward one year and two months to a real trip to the actual factual home Mickey and the gang (hearty thanks and a shout out to generous grandparents) and their innocence is now lost.

Elias enjoys the lights and action at one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

So what does that have to do with Pal?

Well, the Pal people’s understanding of God is very much like our boys with Disneyland – limited to short references and their own imagination. We are so looking forward to being part of opening their eyes to the knowledge of the Holy One. You can pray for them that they would desire to hear and that they would be ready when the time comes. You can pray for us too - our relationships with the Lord are a process of growing in our understanding of the rich life that He offers us  - we desire Him to do all that He would in and through us each day.

A Video…

We are in process of putting together the next in our series of Language learning videos and will hopefully have something to show for you next week.

Finally – Save this date!

So, what happens when you let a missionary’s imagination run wild? A Tribal Missions Connection Extravaganza, that is what. On the evening of April 9th at 6:30 pm at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church in Yuba City, CA, we will be doing something totally new (for us at least). We invite all of our friends in the Sacramento area to come and enjoy games (including Pal games, the ‘How much can you fit on a helicopter challenge’ and others), skits, exhibits with real live docents (such as: language learning, ‘a day in the life’, gardening in Pal etc), and worship with us. It should be a real blast!

Other things to be praying for:

This week we will be in meetings with our partners and another couple that is interested in joining us in Pal to help with the work. We’ll be seeking God’s guidance for the decisions and steps that we need to be making. Also, we are getting ready for some travel back to the Midwest to see friends in Wisconsin and family in Canada (sanity in the long car-hours would be high on our list of requests).

Thanks so much for being part of the team,

Nate for us 5
