Suprise... You get to move forward!

Elizabeth really did great on her language evaluation – here she is telling a story about her sisters to some Pal friends.

A Good Report

Let’s just get the good news out right up front: our language evaluation was fantastic! Elizabeth checked at a level that will allow her to take part in special sessions of the Team Translation Workshop in October (she only has 2 more levels to go to reach ministry approved fluency in the Pal language!) What is really amazing about this is that she has made incredible progress while also homeschooling three boys.

In other news, Nate, shockingly, has reached ministry approved fluency in the Pal language. Just to be clear, he did not bribe anybody (that peach cobbler that the evaluators ate with dinner on the first evening was excellent, but…) What this means is that he can begin to turn his attention to the preparation and production of literacy materials and pre-translation. He will still be spending significant amounts of time investigating culture and worldview with an eye on how we can best present the truths of God’s Word.

Will you take a minute to praise the Lord with us for the progress that He has caused. This is an exciting milestone for us.

Nate, during his evaluation was given a list of sentences in English that he was required to speak to our Pal friends. Here he is thinking about how to say ‘Since they took only one dog with them when then went to look for the pig, I don’t think they will find it.’

We are pushing this update out in a bit of a rush. In the middle of our language evaluations, we have been trying to clean house and pack up for some travels, help with house-building, take advantage of the expertise of our consultants to finalize the Pal alphabet, and spend time with our two kids who are about to travel back to the USA to spend the next 6 weeks with grandparents.

Our next adventure begins tomorrow. Nate, Noah, and Tim, will travel to meet Nate’s mother in Australia, the boys will fly back to the USA with her. Elizabeth and Elias will be heading out to spend some time at one of our mission centers. Once Nate returns to PNG (Thursday), he will be spending a week hiking in and out of Pal doing community relations. He will meet up with Elizabeth again sometime around the 14th.

Would you pray for our family as we going to be stretched a bit in the days ahead.
