In the Image of God...

"Ol i kamap olsem God yet..." Genesis 1:27 Buk Baibel
We are now entering our third week of teaching through the Bible chronologically with the workers here at the Madang Support Center. One of the issues that has come up is the confusing language of the Tok Pigin Bible in regard to the creation of man. In our English transalations Genesis 1:27 reads "And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." A literal translation of the pigin rendering of that verse is "they became the same as God Himself." We bet you can imagine the kinds of faulty thinking that come from that kind of understanding of man's creation. Imagine thinking that you must only understand the correct words or way of talking in order to have the same creative power of the Almighty. Please pray for Mason as he continues to develop the lessons and for us all as we interact with the guys. Pray that they would understand and receive the truth.
In other news, I (Nate) had a brief opportunity to go to the Madang Culture Festival here in Madang. We were only able to stay an hour or so, but it provided an opportunity for me to see the some of the diversity of the many cultures that make up the Madang Province.
We thought also we would share the following insight from Tim: "I like jelly so much that it makes my tummy wiggle." (PB&J was promised for lunch and he immediately began dancing)
Things you can be praying for:
- We are packing things up for our move. Some things will stay in storage here in Madang for the year, some things need to go to our temporary home, and some things need to find new homes. Pray for order in the chaos.
- Nate is still doing lesson development for the classes he will be teaching. There is a ton of work to do before we are ready to begin teaching on the 23rd of July.
- The kids seem to be getting bumps and bruises more than normal lately. Not sure why, but it has made us aware of the potential for real injury as they get older.
- In the next couple of weeks we will be meeting with leadership about our next steps in regard to Mibu and the outreach there. Pray for wisdom with how to proceed in that regard.
