Among Friends

Although it has only been three days since our arrival in New Guinea, we have been encouraged by the renewal of friendships of all kinds. Whether it be dinner with a couple who attended training with us in 2005, spending some time with a former language helper, a soccer game with former students, being recognized by the vendors in the local market, or any one of the dozens of catching-up conversations that we have had – we are very grateful for the fellowship that God has provided for us here.

Headlines upon our arrival in Papua New Guinea…

Upheaval

We were greeted on our arrival in New Guinea to the headlines above. The U.S. equivalent to this would be if more than half of the democrats from both the House and the Senate switched parties (all at once), impeached President Obama, and appointed John Boehner to the Presidency – all in a two hour period. Although we personally don not feel the direct effects of this change in government yet, we are concerned that PNG stays open to mission work. Please pray with us for the new PNG government – that they would root out corruption rather than embrace it and that they would make and enforce laws that would continue to allow our work here.

Overall we are doing great and beginning to sleep well again after the jet lag. Thanks so much for praying for our travels (don’t stop yet – we’ll not actually be finished traveling until late next week). Pray for us too as we work hard over the next 11 days to get things ready for our flights into Pal.

Nate for the 5 of us.
