The Curse of the Superlative
When the rain is coming down in buckets, enter the P.E. ropes challenge course. (Don’t fall down boys.)
Of things that go bump on my head…
At a full three inches taller than the next tallest person in Pal (and about 7 inches taller than the average), traveling the trails with my friends is fraught with danger. This is partially due to the fact that, not only am I the tallest, I am also the blindest (peripherally speaking at least) due to my habitual wearing of eye glasses and hat. Think about it like this, if it were you and you were cutting a trail, you wouldn’t worry too much about the sharp branches (or even fallen logs) that hover more than six inches above your head. Later, walking along with your much taller friend you might think about it, but mostly just to laugh at his uproarious antics – if he were that crazy white guy - he’d probably be dancing about (or even rolling down the hill) clutching at the spot on his head that just got a little balder after meeting that unseen obstacle. (We are learning about the things that make our friends laugh as well.)
Yeah, laugh all you want, sometimes I pay for such a bump for a week or more, infections being what they are and all. In fact, as I write this, one side of my head is swollen to the point where Elizabeth says I remind her of that lopsided cartoon genius ‘The Brain’ from Pinky and the Brain. Bumps on the head don’t do much for my ego either…
The one-two combination of repeated impacts (wrestlemania?) and repeated salt exposure (what me sweat?) caused massive glasses failure this week.
Not Alone.
Just today, we learned that our partners will be heading home to the US for a couple of months to get further help with their health issues. It has been a long process for them that has stretched us all. Our hearts are very much with them as they both deal with significant (even debilitating) illnesses while trying to ready themselves for travel and take care of their four children.
There truly is more to say here than words can convey. We so appreciate them. We will be exploring how we can best stand together with them this week. Would you seek the Lords grace for them as well?
Thankfully, Blindly, and Asymetrically…
