Mark
What’s in a name?
Although it is not altogether strange to meet people here in New Guinea with Bible names or even with the names of those venerated by certain church denominations, it is a rarity in Pal to meet someone whose only name* is biblically based. So meet Mak (the pal language version of Mark). He was born late last year, right after we spent 4 months carefully walking through the book of Mark with believers here. Our focus in those months was primarily on helping our Mesi friends stand on the truth of scripture rather than on the rumors of wealth and prosperity that others were bombarding them with. I hope that every time his parents call his name that they are reminded of that charge – to be rooted in solid written word rather than the ever-changing whims of storytellers. I know that I will.
Thanks for praying for us this week. We’d especially ask for prayer for wisdom as we make plans for a resource center for our bible teachers and literacy school. Currently our mission helicopter is down and we are not sure when it will be back in service. Also, please be praying for some of the Mesi men who will be traveling (for the first time) by plane to Wewak town to help our team do a final check on the book of Ephesians and the last few chapters of Romans.
Again, thanks for praying.
Nate for the Cs.
*Most men have a tribal name and a town name. Before, our guys believed that if someone knew their tribal name, that person would have some power over them.
